Pacific Cycle recalls some Schwinn Ovation bike child carriers for faulty restraints

WASHINGTON (BRAIN) — Pacific Cycle is recalling about 650 Schwinn Ovation bike child carriers because the restraint buckles can loosen.

No injuries have been reported, but Pacific Cycle is aware of one incident where the buckles came loose. Consumers should contact Pacific Cycle for a refund.

The carriers were sold on Amazon and schwinnbikes.com from May 2025 through September 2025 for between $190 and $230.

Pedego recalls about 400 Fat Tire Trikes because frame can break

WASHINGTON (BRAIN) — Pedego is recalling about 400 electric Fat Tire Trikes because the aluminum frame can develop a hairline fracture near a weld, causing the tubes to separate and posing fall and laceration hazards.

The brand has received 16 reports of frame breakage, including one where a rider's leg was lacerated. The Fat Tire Trike has a rectangular label on the downtube near the front of the frame with the word "Pedego" printed. The product was sold in matte black.

Consumers should stop using the recalled trikes and contact Pedego to schedule a repair involving the replacement of a section of the frame, which will be installed by a Pedego dealer of their choice at no charge. Consumers should fill out a registration form here.

The made-in-China trikes were sold at Pedego stores nationwide and online at PedegoElectricBikes.com from March 2024 through March 2025 for between $3,500 and $4,000.

DT Swiss said open cases remain in carbon wheelset recall

(BRAIN) — DT Swiss issued an update Thursday on its carbon wheelset recall from five months ago, urging customers with affected wheelsets to return them for testing

The brand said 80.3% of potentially affected wheelsets registered have been tested. The recall was issued July 29, warning that some sold aftermarket and on complete bikes can delaminate in the flange area.

DT Swiss said "not everything went smoothly" with the recall as some customers were upset at the time it took for testing and returning the wheelsets.

"In individual cases, there were problems with logistical processes, or the products were damaged during transport," according to DT Swiss. "Despite these circumstances, we received positive feedback from affected customers regarding the clarity of communication and the speed and professionalism with which their own cases were handled."

Current testing turnaround time, according to DT Swiss, is a few days, not including shipping.

CPSC warns against using Duyue2 adult helmets

WASHINGTON (BRAIN) — The Consumer Product Safety Commission is warning consumers to stop using Duyue2 adult bike helmets because they violate mandatory standards. This warning applies to about 100 helmets sold online and possibly other third-party sellers.

The agency issued a Notice of Violation to the seller, Shenzhen Duyue E-Commerce Co. Ltd. of China, doing business as Duyue2. Duyue2 has not agreed to a recall or offer a remedy to consumers.

The helmets violate the impact attenuation, retention system, positional stability, certification and labeling requirements of the mandatory safety standard for bicycle helmets. The CPSC said consumers should cut the straps and dispose of the helmet.

They were sold in one size fitting a circumference of 21.26 inches to 24.02 inches. The helmets are red and black with gold stripes and have gray padding, black straps with a silver reflective pattern in the center, a black buckle with a gray chin strap and a black plastic knob at the back for fitment adjustment. The CPSC is aware that the firm also sold the helmets in blue/white.

Priced at between $14 and $44, the helmets were sold at Shein.com from April 2025 through November 2025.

Trek recalls Domane+, Checkpoint+ e-bikes for undertorqued chainring bolts

WASHINGTON (BRAIN) — Trek is recalling about 700 Domane+ and Checkpoint+ e-bike models because the chainring bolts can loosen, posing a fall and crash hazard.

The recalled 2026 models are the Domane+ ALR 5, Domane+ ALR 6 AXS, Checkpoint+ SL 6, and Checkpoint+ SL 7. Three incidents of the chainring loosening without injury have been reported.

The bikes should not be ridden until an authorized Trek dealer can tighten the chainring bolts to the correct specification. Trek will give consumers a $20 in-store credit toward Trek, Electra, or Bontrager merchandise. The credit is valid through Dec. 31, 2026.

The bicycles were manufactured in various colors and sizes. The word "TREK" is located on the downtube, and the model's name is printed on the top tube. They were sold at Independent bicycle retailers and Trek authorized stores nationwide and online from July 2025 through September 2025 for between $5,000 and $8,000.

Outdoor Master recalls kids helmets for lacking mandatory standard

WASHINGTON (BRAIN) — The Consumer Product Safety Commission is recalling about 24,300 Outdoor Master children's and youth helmets because they don't comply with positional stability and coverage requirements.

No injuries nor incidents have been reported.

Two Outdoor Master helmet models are included in the recall:

OM-TD BIKE is blue with a dinosaur print, black padding, black straps, black buckle, and a black plastic knob at the back for fitment adjustment. It was sold in children's size small. "OM-TD BIKE" and "05/2024" (the manufacture date) is printed on a label inside, and the brand is printed on the back of the helmet.

OM-KSKB is deep green with black padding, yellow straps, black buckle, and a black plastic knob at the back for fitment adjustment. It was sold in youth size small, "OM-KSKB" and "11/2022" (the manufacture date) is printed on a label inside, and the brand is printed on the front and back of the helmet.

Consumers should stop using the helmets and contact Outdoor Master for instructions on how to register for a full refund. Outdoor Master can be reached by email at care@outdoormaster.com or online.

The helmets were sold online at Amazon.com and Walmart.com from June 2024 through February 2025 for between $20 and $32.

CPSC issues battery safety warning after Rad Power said it can't afford a recall

Embattled brand says batteries passed third-party testing, says recall would shut down company.

WASHINGTON (BRAIN) — The Consumer Product Safety Commission issued a warning to stop using some Rad Power Bikes models because the lithium-ion battery can unexpectedly ignite and explode, especially when the battery or harness has been exposed to water and debris.

Rad Power Bikes did not agree to "an acceptable recall," according to the CPSC, and the brand told the agency that given its financial situation, it can't offer replacement batteries or refunds to consumers.

Earlier this month, Rad Power Bikes told Washington state officials that it would possibly lay off 64 employees in the state in January and could shut down if additional funding is not secured.

"Rad's Safe Shield batteries and semi-integrated batteries are not subject to the agency's statement," according to a statement from Rad Power Bikes that the CPSC is including with its warning."Rad had the batteries re-tested by third-party labs as part of this investigation; the batteries passed these tests again. Nonetheless, in an effort to partner with the CPSC, Rad proposed multiple solutions to the agency in good faith. Rad informed the agency that its demand to replace all batteries, regardless of condition, would immediately put Rad out of business, which would be of no benefit to our riders. Rad is disappointed that it could not reach a resolution that best serves our riders and the industry at large. Rad reminds its customers to inspect batteries before use or charging and immediately stop using batteries that show signs of damage, water ingress, or corrosion, and to contact Rad so we can support our riders."

A Rad Power Bikes spokesperson emailed BRAIN after the CPSC warning:

"Rad Power Bikes firmly stands behind our batteries and our reputation as leaders in the e-bike industry, and strongly disagrees with the CPSC's characterization of certain Rad batteries as defective or unsafe. We have a long and well-documented track record of building safe, reliable e-bikes equipped with batteries that meet or exceed rigorous international safety standards, including UL 2271 and UL 2849. The CPSC proposed requiring these UL standards in January 2025 but has yet to adopt them. Rad e-bikes have met these standards for years."

The spokesperson added that Rad Power offered "multiple" solutions, including offering consumers an opportunity to upgrade to its Safe Shield batteries at a "substantial discount." The Safe Shield battery, the spokesperson said, incorporates new, safer, and better technology but it does not mean that preceding products are not safe or defective.

The CPSC said it is aware of 31 reports of fire, including 12 reports of property damage totaling approximately $734,500. Some of these incidents occurred when the battery was not charging, the product was not in use, and the product was in storage. The agency urges consumers to immediately remove the battery and dispose of it following local hazardous waste disposal procedures.

The batteries were sold with the following Rad Power Bikes e-bike models and as replacement batteries: RadWagon 4, RadCity HS 4, RadRover High Step 5, RadCity Step Thru 3, RadRover Step Thru 1, RadRunner 2, RadRunner 1, RadRunner Plus, and RadExpand 5.

The battery model number (HL-RP-S1304 or RP-1304) is printed on a label on the back or rear of the battery.

The batteries were sold on RadPowerBikes.com and at Best Buy stores and independent bike shops nationwide for about $550 for replacement batteries and between $1,500 and $2,000 when sold with e-bikes.

Trek recalling about 68,000 bikes because of coaster brake issue

WASHINGTON (BRAIN) — Trek has recalled about 68,000 bikes because the coaster brake can fail. The recall also includes replacement rear wheels and Electra-branded bikes.

In addition to those sold in the U.S. 6,820 bikes subject to recall were sold in Canada. No incidents or injuries have been reported.

Trek said, "the grease inside the coaster brake assembly does not adequately lubricate the internal surfaces, which can lead to faster wear and damage to the brake. If the brake does not work properly, the rider could lose control of the bicycle and fall."

Trek is providing consumers with the wheels with a free replacement wheel through an authorized retailer. Trek also is providing the consumers with a $20 in-store credit that can be used toward any Electra, Trek, or Bontrager merchandise.

The recalled bikes and replacement wheels should not be used, and consumers should contact an authorized Trek or Electra dealer to schedule a free repair at the dealer. Trek can be contacted toll-free at 800-373-4594 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. CT Monday through Friday or online.

The bikes were sold in a variety of colors, including red, flamingo pink, dark aquatic, mulsanne blue, volt yellow, pink frosting, Miami green, lithium gray, viper red, purple abyss, buttercup, pixie blue, and blue.

To determine what bike or replacement rear wheel is included, enter the serial number in look-up tool. The serial number is printed under the bottom bracket between the pedals and starts with the letters "WTU."

The bikes and wheels were sold at Trek and Electra authorized retailers nationwide, in stores and online, as well as at Trek.com from August 2023 to September 2025 for between $300 and $660 for the bikes and between $66 and $77 for the replacement wheels.

About 800,000 Peloton Bike+ models recalled for faulty seatpost

WASHINGTON (BRAIN) — Peloton is recalling about 833,000 of its Original Series Bike+ exercise models because the seatpost assembly can break.

There have been three reports of the seatpost breaking and detaching and two reports of injuries because of falling.

The recall is for Bike+ units with model number PL02 and serial numbers beginning with the letter "T." The bike measures 4 feet long by 2 feet wide and has an adjustable seat and handlebar. The serial number is located either inside the fork, behind the fork, or behind the flywheel. Additional information to help locate the serial number is available here.

Consumers should stop using the bikes and contact Peloton for a free seatpost that can be installed.

The bikes were sold online and at Dick's Sporting Goods nationwide from January 2020 through April 2025 for about $2,495.

Lezyne recalling some Over Drive tubeless pumps because of injury risk

WASHINGTON (BRAIN) — Lezyne USA is recalling about 7,500 Pressure Over Drive and Digital Pressure Over Drive tubeless floor pumps because the canister can forcefully eject from the base when pressurized, posing a risk of injury.

Only floor pumps with a bleed valve on the front of the base are included in this recall. One injury has been reported with the canister ejecting and resulting in serious injuries to a user's face.

The tubeless pumps are black, made of steel and aluminum with a natural wood colored handle and have a nylon-reinforced braided hose. The Lezyne logo is printed on the side. Consumers should stop using the pumps and contact Lezyne for a free replacement pump, including shipping. Go to Lezyne to register the recalled pump.

The pumps were sold at shops nationwide and online from May 2016 and December 2021 for between $150 and $180.

In addition, about 680 pumps were sold in Canada.
